Description
How has art been used to engage communities and spread messages of social justice? Is art a commodity that is only accessible to the wealthy? Has society's idea of "art for the people" changed the way that we view art?
Chicano artist Jake Prendez will discuss "the history of social justice art from the rise of Mexican muralism to its influence on American artwork, from the civil rights era and the modern era." Prendez will talk about how advances in production and technology made art more accessible. He'll also deconstruct his own artwork and show how it relates to the topic.
