Bubble Cup Crafts

By Sarah Bode of North Sound Macaroni Kid June 24, 2010
Does your child love bubbles?? Here is a great bubbles cup craft provided by Sarah Bode of North Sound Macaroni Kid!!

Items needed:

Dixie Cup

Straw

4 in square of washcloth (must be a washcloth not paper towel)

rubber band

hole punch

water

hand soap

Punch hole in side of dixie cup about 1/2 inch from the top.

Cut straw to about 5 inches in length.

Wet washcloth and place on top of dixie cup.  Use rubber band to hold in place.

Put a squirt of soap on the washcloth and rub in until foamy.  May need to add water and/or soap to make foamy.

Use straw to BLOW (remind kiddos not to suck on the straw, only blow!) bubbles out the top of the cup.

Dixie cups do get soggy, so for a longer lasting bubble blower, you can use a plastic cup.

The ladies at the library did this at toddler time with 2 and 3 year olds and they loved it!  The bubbles blow up somtimes 6-8 inches high!

Want MORE BUBBLES???

Bubble Solution:

  • one cup of dishwashing liquid
  • 3-4 tablespoons of glycerin
  • 12 cups of water
  • large bucket

To make the bubble solution, mix together one cup of dishwashing liquid, 3-4 tablespoons of glycerin and 12 cups of water.

For Giant Bubbles:

  • long shoelace (about 72 inches long)
  • plastic ring, like a shower curtain ring
  • clothespin
  • broom handle, yardstick or dowel

To make the wand:

1.   Make a long shoelace and tie it to one end of a stick. You can use a broom handle, a yardstick or a dowel. It helps if there is a hole at the end of the stick. Stretch the shoelace along the stick.

2.   Take a plastic ring, like a plastic shower curtain ring, slip it on the end of the stick where you tied the shoelace. Slide it about a third of the way down.

3.   Tie the shoelace to the ring. Be sure the ring can still slide up and down the stick.

4.   Tie the other end of the shoelace to the end of the stick where the shoelace is tied. The shoelace should now hang down in a U-shape.

5.   Attach the clothespin to the bottom of the U-shape of the shoelace. This keeps the shoelace from getting tangled when you dip it into the bubble mixture.

6.   Slide the plastic ring to the end of the stick--where the shoelace is tied-- and dip the shoelace in the bubble mixture. Make sure you get the entire shoelace wet.

7.   Raise the stick and wave it slowly, pulling the ring to the other end of the stick. It makes a giant bubble! To close off the bubble, push the ring all the back to the other end of the stick.
